SEVEN SAMURAI: KYUZO’S DUEL

Don’t you see? A real sword will kill you.

Another ink sketch on my travelling Moleskine. This is my favourite scene on any martial arts films. It is from Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai – 1954) by Akira Kurosawa. The duel Kyuzo (left) felt forced to fight against an unknown ronin.

Kyuzo’s demeanour reminds me a lot of my old Kendo senpai. I remember reading that the actor, Seiji Miyaguchi, had little to not training at the time of the film. Hard to believe.

P.S. Don’t forget we’re now on Facebook!
