Superhuman effort isn’t worth a damn unless it achieves results – Sir Ernest Shackleton

Graphite +  Faber PITT pens: XS, S and B + Digital

This is a poster commission I have been working on in my spare time. The artwork is for a book called Outliers, which contains stories about a group of people with super human abilities. This is the reason I opted for a comic book style for the illustration. This is not a book for a young audience, but I can tell you that the authors involved are super talented.

My client is a bit unsure about the partial nudity (how we dare showing some nipples, shock and horror!) – so I have created a nipleless version just in case. I sort of understand where my client is coming from – the pressure of a committee can be strong. But I can’t help to find the situation a bit silly. The illustration is displaying a woman smoking and another one wielding a gun but we worry about a nipple. It is not like the blue chick is posing as a pin-up girl, she is displaying some serious power, wild and untamed. We live in a society that have no qualms about showing violence but seems ashamed of their own naked nature…

I have also created the logo. I don’t do that often but it is always fun 🙂

P.S. Don’t forget we’re now on Facebook!
